Electric Vehicles refer to those that operate with an electric battery, helping reduce emissions and providing a more efficient ride than regular gas-fueled vehicles. However, there are many types of electric vehicles, each offering an array of advantages. Battery electric vehicles are powered solely by an electric battery. These are zero-emissions vehicles that have a driving rate of between 50 and 350 miles.

Hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), on the other hand, work with an electric motor that assists the gas-powered engine. All the energy comes from the engine and therefore they don’t need to be charged.  Instead, the battery pack is charged by the engine and regenerative braking. This enables the vehicle’s kinetic energy to be converted back to electrical energy when you press de braking pedal.

The power gathered by the electric motor allows the vehicle to have a smaller engine, helping reduce carbon footprint and make it more efficient than traditional cars.

Lastly, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) offer the best of both worlds. They use batteries to power an electric motor and at the same time use an internal combustion engine (ICE) that allows them to enable longer electric ranges than HEVs. However, they still have the traditional engine, meaning that, once the electricity stored in the battery is depleted, the vehicle smoothly changes into traditional mode, using the ICE. PHEVs need to be charged by a Level 1 or Level 2 charger.
