What Is the New EV Law in California?
The new EV law in California requires that, by 2035, all new passenger cars and trucks sold within the state must be zero-emission vehicles. The requirement is extended to 2045 for all medium- and heavy-duty vehicles when it would be possible to transition them to zero-emission status as well.
Such zero-emission status is found in standard electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and hydrogen fuel cell models. Therefore, you’ll have a wide array of choices when buying a new car.

Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids can also be charged without ever leaving the house. Standard equipment typically allows for Level 1 charging through a 120-volt charger. A quicker, more advanced charging outlet can be installed that uses 240-volt power.

No, you do not need to get rid of your gasoline-powered vehicle. You’ll still be able to drive it and sell it when you’re ready for a new model. That new model will now be a zero-emission vehicle thanks to this law.
